HOOP DREAMS x IKRAM ABDULKADIR

by Iskias Araya

As we enter the month of June, it is officially summer. Maybe you are looking for suggestions for things to do in Stockholm in the coming months? Then we have a perfect tip for you. Right now the photo exhibition Hoop Dreams x Ikram Abdulkadir is taking place in Kungsträdgården, Stockholm.

This is how the exhibition is described:

"We know all about the dream. We look at Amanda Zahui and Farhiya Abdi and the others who made it all the way to the WNBA, and we understand why a kid with talent would hope to be out on the same basketball court one day. But "Dreamers & "Achievers" isn't just about basketball. It's about the dream and the reality of daily life for the players, captured in one picture."

Photographer Ikram Abdulkadir is a Nairobi-born, Malmö-based photographer and artist. She has held notable exhibitions and released the photo book Do you remember the sea, abaayo?"

The exhibition shows photos taken by the photographer Ikram Abdulkadir of the girls from the associations Tensta Basket and VGB Basket - both of which are housed in Tensta. Also seen is the player Awa from the Blue line, as well as Farhiya Abdi - the first Somali and third Swede ever to play in the WNBA logo.
